Guatemala is situated between El Salvador and Mexico and bordering the North Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Honduras (Caribbean Sea). It has a tropical climate. Situated in the mountains, there are a large number of active volcanoes, latest eruption occurred in 2010. Furthermore, Guatemala is occasionally subjected to violent earthquakes.
