Rwanda

Rwanda is located in eastern Africa, and is bordered by the Democratic Republic of the Congoto the west, UgandaTanzania to the east, and Burundi to the south. It lies a few degrees south of the equator and is landlocked.

Although Rwanda is located only two degrees south of the equator, its high elevation makes the climate temperate. Rwanda's natural resources include gold, cassiterite, wolframite, methane, hydropower and arable land.

Key Water Issues and Challenges

Increased vulnerability under climate change is expected to result in:

  • Extreme flood and drought events are estimated to reduce long-term growth in the region by about 2.4% of GDP per annum
  • Increased average temperatures and changes in annual and seasonal rainfall will be felt across key economic sectors, most important affecting agricultural production, energy use, infrastructure, biodiversity and ecosystem
