GWP Regions

This is where you can find links to the websites of our Regional Water Partnerships (RWPs). RWPs are closest to the countries where we work. They share knowledge and learning across national boundaries and are expected to have an open, inclusive, and gender-sensitive policies for bringing together as wide a group of stakeholders as possible to solve water problems.

UK Water Security Programme awards £9m to Global Water Partnership

GWP will receive £9 million in funding from the UK's Department for International Development, through to 2015. The UK’s Water Security Programme was announced at the climate change negotiations in Doha at COP 18 by the UK Secretary of State, Edward Davey, on Tuesday, December 4, 2012.

“The UK’s Water Security Programme will provide support of £21 million over three years (2012-2015) to help 18 million poor people become more resilient to climate change through improved water resources management,” said the UK's press release.

Secure and sustainable access to water

The release noted that, “Working through the Global Water Partnership and the World Bank Water Partnership Programme we will help to increase secure and sustainable access to water for drinking and sanitation, irrigation and flood protection, reducing vulnerability to climate change. The programme will also benefit over 100 million people indirectly through improved water planning, development and management in strategic river basins.”

GWP announced the contribution at the GWP’s press briefing in Doha on Thursday, December 6.

Better investments in sustainable water

GWP Executive Secretary Dr Ania Grobicki said, “This funding provides a unique opportunity for GWP to scale up implementation of our global strategy at local, national, regional and global levels. This work sets the stage for better investments in sustainable water development and management, reaching many more people and delivering in tangible ways on GWP’s vision of a water secure world.”
