High Level Side Event with UNFCCC Chief and Morocco Minister

GWP representatives are at the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany, taking place 16-26 May. The focus is on GWP support for the implementation of the Paris Agreement, specifically in relation to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) from countries, the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) processes, South-South Cooperation, and financing. On Thursday 19 May GWP is co-organising a high level side event together with the Government of Morocco, the UNFCCC Secretariat Adaptation Programme, and GIZ.

After its adoption in December last year, the Paris Agreement was opened for signature with a high level event in New York on 22 April

Now, with the first UNFCCC session following the Paris Agreement, the focus in Bonn will be on implementation. GWP is gearing up for its continued support to countries on climate change adaptation, leading towards the implementation of the Paris Agreement. For example, activities under the Global Water, Climate and Development Programme aim to strengthen the resilience of countries to climate change, and more specifically support to countries will focus around the Nationally Determined Contributions, the National Adaptation Plan processes, South-South Cooperation, and financing.

In Bonn, GWP representatives participate in a number of events. On Thursday 19 May (18:30-20:00, Room Nairobi 4), GWP is co-organising a side event together with the Government of Morocco, the UNFCCC Secretariat Adaptation Programme, and GIZ. The theme is “Fostering the adaptation Component in the NDCs: A case of African South-South Cooperation”. Speakers at the event include Ms. Hakima El Haite, Delegate Minister of Environment, Morocco, and Ms. Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, as well as Mr. Rudolph Cleveringa, Executive Secretary of GWP.

Throughout the second week of the conference, 23-26 May, GWP will have a booth in the exhibit area, and on Tuesday 24 May (at 10.30) a GWP press briefing will be held.
