The 7th Hydropower for Today Forum

On November 1 and 2, 2016, the 7th Hydropower for Today Forum held in Hangzhou, China. It was hosted by the Ministry of Water Resources of China (MWR) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and organized by the International Centre on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP).

The ICSHP is one of key partners of GWP China. As the co-organiser of the Forum, GWP China sent delegates to the event.

The 7th Hydropower for Today Forum aimed at seeking an innovative, coordinative, green, open and shared development concept, guiding the green development of global small hydropower and sharing the successful experience of China on small hydropower development. It was also set to provide a platform for international communication and cooperation on small hydropower sector.  Its theme was small hydropower and green development. Mr. Chen Lei, the Minister of Ministry of Water Resources of China, Mr. Yuan Jiajun, Executive Vice Governor, Zhejiang Provincial Government, Mr. Philippe Scholtes, Managing Director of UNIDO, Mrs. Rabi Shuaibu Jimeta, Permanent Secretary, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources of Nigeria, Mr. Sindiso Ngwenya, Secretary General of COMESA, Mr. Ioane Naivalurua, the Ambassador of Fiji to China addressed the opening ceremony of the forum. The World Small Hydropower Development Report 2016 was published during the forum.
The International Centre on Small Hydro Power (ICSHP) is a public and non-profit institution directly under auspices of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), China’s Ministry of Water Resources and Ministry of Commerce. It serves as headquarters of the International Network on Small Hydro Power (INSHP), an international organization with more than 400 members from 78 countries. The centre director, Mdm. Xialei Cheng is the Council Member of GWP China.
