Stories to Watch 2015: Climate and Development

On March 3, 2015, the Workshop on Stories to Watch 2015 was held in Tsinghua University in Beijing which was jointly organized by the World Resources Institute (WRI) China and the Institute for Contemporary China Studies at Tsinghua University. Mr. Rugang  Zheng, the Coordinator of GWP China was invited to attend the workshop.

The workshop was chaired by Dr. Lailai Li, the WRI China Country Director. Mr. Feng  Gao, the Special Representative for Climate Change Negotiations of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs made an opening speech. Mr. Manish Bapna, the Executive Vice President and Managing Director  of the WRI, and Prof. Angang Hu, Director of the Institute for Contemporary China Studies at Tsinghua University, presented their insights into the major events that would impact the environment, sustainability and development areas for China and the world.

After the presentations, the discussion was made by the Panel consisting of Prof. Yi Qian, Prof. Guiyang Zhuang, Prof. Angang Hu and Mr. Manish Bapna and the questions raised by the participants were also answered by the panelists.

According to the WRI, the key topics in 2015 include: a global climate deal, sustainable development goals, shifting investments, coalition for actions and cities in the spotlight.

Taking the advantage, Mr. Zheng had discussed with Dr. LijinZhong, the China Water Lead of WRI China, about the cooperative activities by the two organizations in 2015, one of which is the co-organizing of the seminar “How Securing Water and Energy in the Rapid Urbanization” in the 2015 World Water Week in coming August in Stockholm.
