Prof. Wang Hao, Acting Chair of GWP China and Prof. Cheng Xiaotao, Deputy Coordinator of GWP China were invited to the forum.
In the sub-forum “the disaster prevention and mitigation in the modern urbanization”, Prof. Wang Hao delivered a presentation entitled "the study on urban flood disasters in the current situation in China", analysing the causes of more frequent urban flood disasters of China in recent years and introducing various measures about the construction of sponge cities. Another presentation entitled “the challenges at the construction of sponge cities in China” was brought by Prof. Cheng who described the pressures and challenges of urban water security in China in the current situation that demanded a clear understanding of key problems of the integrated urban flood management and solutions as well as that of the nature of urban floods and their environment to work out a transformation mechanism from the disasters-stressed to that of rainwater resources utilization.
