WACDEP re-launched during UNFCC COP21

The Water, Climate and Development Programme was re-launched during a session held during the UNFCCC COP21 conference taking place in Paris, France on 1st December, 2015. GWP is responding to the climate change challenge through the Global Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) which includes a portfolio of programmes and projects aiming to build climate resilience through better water management. The WACDEP in Africa programmes and projects are being implemented on behalf of the African Union and African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW), and in collaboration with relevant governments and regional economic development communities.

The various programmes have specifically been created to support the integration of water security and climate change adaptation into development planning processes and the design of financing and investment strategies. GWPSA is the current coordination Unit of the WACDEP in Africa. The current phase began in May 2011 and ends in April, 2016. The relaunch of the programme in Africa by the African Union Heads of States, and AMCOW is a vital step towards the political priority for water, sanitation and climate resilience. This AMCOW programme will extend to an additional 10 countries in Africa for an additional 2 years.

During the UNFCCC COP21 conference taking place in Paris, France from 30 November until 11 December, GWP is also participating in, and will speak up at gatherings on the Funding for water resources management and future financing mechanisms. Read more:
