On August 14, 2015, the GWP global Steering Committee approved the decision to appoint Prof. Eelco van Beek as Interim Chair of the GWP Technical Committee.

Eelco van Beek assumes the position on October 1, 2015, when the current Chair, Dr. Mohamed Ait-Kadi, ends his second term (non-renewable). The announcement was made on August 26th at a meeting of the Technical Committee.

Prof. van Beek is Professor of Integrated Water Resources Management at the University of Twente and also teaches Water Resources Development at UNESCO-IHE in Delft. He has been a member of the Technical Committee for three years.

He has a M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Delft University of Technology. During his career he has been involved in many water resources development projects in a large number of countries. His work has included IWRM planning projects at national and river basin scale as well as feasibility studies and implementation projects. He has also engaged in a variety of studies on topics such as water quantity and quality, ecology, governance, and socio-economics.

Prof. van Beek thanked the Steering Committee and the Technical Committee for their confidence and said he will build on his predecessor’s achievements, including increasing the communication with GWP regions. “Other important tasks are to support the Network, contribute to the positioning of GWP, and manage the transition to a new Technical Committee Chair,” said Prof. van Beek.
