GWP will take an active role in the Habitat III Conference, taking place in Quito, Ecuador, on 17-20 October 2016. Habitat III is the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. It will mainly focus on the implementation of a New Urban Agenda, building on the Habitat Agenda of Istanbul in 1996. This is the first United Nations global summit after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
On 18 October 2016, together with GWOPA at UN-Habitat & the Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (IAS) at United Nations University (UNU), GWP is co-convening an event: “Beyond Basic Services: Rethinking the values, functions, and management of waters in our cities”.
GWP will also discuss with partners the new initiative “Towards an Urban Waters Hub”. This is an open international alliance of members who promote innovative approaches to urban water and wastewater management, with a focus on integrated approaches, green and resilient solutions that benefit all levels of society.
