Towards Integrated Urban Water Management

Posted: 2011-08-22

The twin engines of urbanisation and resource depletion will undermine efforts to achieve water security: water availability will be eroded and conflicts will escalate. The assumptions underlying conventional urban water management must be revisited.

In this just-published GWP Perspectives Paper, launched at the 2011 Stockholm World Water Week, GWP Technical Committee member Dr. Akiça Bahri outlines the effects of urbanization on water security and how the challenges of urban water resources management can be tackled.

A GWP Perspective Paper provides the conceptual framework for a particular topic and the options for action. GWP invites its network and knowledge partners to a dialogue on the solutions proposed and to provide stories and case studies that will enhance future knowledge products on the topic.

Towards Integrated Urban Water Management can be downloaded here as a pdf, read online in English or Spanish, or printed copies can be ordered from gwp@gwp.org.
