Stage 1 - Identifying Challenges

The aim of Stage 1 of SDG 6 SP is to strengthen IWRM monitoring and reporting nationally, in order to identify critical areas for attention

The aim of Stage 1 of SDG 6 SP is to strengthen IWRM monitoring and reporting nationally, in order to identify critical areas for attention. Through Stage 1 activities, Global Water Partnership (GWP) together with UN Environment Programme-DHI and UNDP Cap-Net engage with countries to foster a stakeholder-inclusive reporting process around SDG indicator 6.5.1 by convening workshops to collect official country data on the degree of implementation of integrated water resource management (IWRM). This process strengthens SDG 6.5 national monitoring and reporting frameworks by identifying critical areas for attention.

Under Stage 1, the initiative has already advanced the SDG reporting process in more than 30 countries. In fact, together with UN Environment-DHI, the custodian agency of SDG 6.5.1, GWP convened 36 workshops in 2017-2018 to collect the official country data for 6.5.1. In 2020, we have renewed our commitment to this process by offering support to 60 countries to aid the reporting process on SDG 6.5.1. You can view here the current status of the countries that have requested support.
