Categories and related content

Categorising pages is a very powerful and easy way to set up related content in your website saving hours of editing if ti is done carefully.

When articles are categorised we can create a special type of page called a "category filter". This is a page can "listen" to a section of your site and automatically create a feed, or collection, of pages that match a certain selection of categories that you define in the filter. This filter can be linked to by the right hand module link list of any page, and will automatically create a list of all the matching pages.

For example, if all articles in your news section are tagged according to strategic goal, you can create a category filter to listen to your news section for Goal 1 articles, and them place this list on the right hand side of your page that talks about Goal 1.

This saves HOURS of cross linking related pages and makes the syndication of one site to another easy.

Here's an example in action:

http://www.gwp.org/en/Our-approach/Strategic-goals/Goal-1/

On the right hand side of this page, in the Modules the site points to this cateogry filter:

"Articles filtered by category->Recent Strategic Goal 1 Articles"

Which has been created to listen for Goal 1 articles in the GWP.org news section. The right hand module knows what a category filter it supposed to do, so on the on the Goal 1 page where it has been added to the right hand module link list, you see an automatically generated a list of the most up to datel Goal 1 articles in the news section.

For a donor this is a huge win, as they can immediately see that GWP has been working towards it's strategic goals, and how!
