Kazakhstan

The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan is fully committed to achieving the SDGs, including SDG 6 on water. A number of governance processes are in place that will provide the framework for SDG achievement in relation to water resources. These include the national Water Code, the development programmes ‘Kazakhstan-2030’ and Kazakhstan-2050’, and the state programme ‘Water Resources Management in Kazakhstan for 2015-2020’. In addition, a National Plan on IWRM and water use efficiency is under development.

GWP Kazakhstan is a key support partner to the institutions mandated to achieve SDG 6 and will continue to provide this support function through the SDG-PF. The project will build on the results of the series of national consultations organised by GWP Kazakhstan between 2012 and 2013 on the role of water in the SDGs.
