Tanzania Water Partnership nominated to the National Multi-Sectoral Forum on WRMD in Tanzania

Tanzania Water Partnership (TWP) has been recognized and nominated by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in Tanzania to be a member of the National Multi-Sectoral Water Resources Management Forum. The forum is meant to serve as a national platform for discussing and deliberating on Integrated Water Resources Management and development issues involving wide stakeholder interests, water related institutions and sectors.

The composition of the national forum include representation from all sector related Ministries, Local government, Water and supply authorities, Research and Higher Learning Institutions, Civil Society Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations and Private sector.  From a functionalist perspective, the forum is perceived as problem-solving platform to democratize water management, to manage conflict and even to make water management more efficient. One of the fundamental functions of the forum is to advise the Ministry of Water & Irrigation on the planning, management, utilization, development, protection and conservation of the water resources of Tanzania as well as on the role and position of the Public with regard to such activities and the possible impact thereof on social and environment. The platform will also serve to advice on water sector programmes and related developments, which would otherwise influence or be influenced by other sectors development plans and advice on ways for harmonization of the same. The forum will also enhance the promotion of collaborative research and support relevant studies and identify research areas related to sectoral water use, management and development of the water resources in all river basins.

The nomination of TWP to the national Multi-sectoral forum is an appreciation of key processes and efforts that led to the official recognition of TWP in Tanzania. TWP was officially registered as an NGO in 2015 and the cordial working relationship between TWP and Ministry of Water and Irrigation was further enhanced in August 2016 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties. The MoU highlighted various fronts for collaboration including engaging each other in research, development and capacity building initiatives.
