The Response:

Project Preparation Partnership for GCF Water Investments

Project Preparation Partnership has been established to provide a structured resource for African countries to access continued strategic and technical support in  prioritization and preparation of climate resilient water projects for financing by the Green Climate Fund and other climate funds. The Partnership will support countries to translate their prioritised water related project ideas into concept notes, and develop these into proposals for submission to the GCF.

The Partnership responds to country needs and an expressed demand for support to strengthen the capacity of GCF National Designated Authorities (NDAs), GCF Direct Access Entities (DAEs), and Water Ministries/agencies to prepare climate resilient water projects meet GCF investment criteria.

The Project Preparation Partnership for GCF Water Investments in Africa responds to expressed country requests and high level global and African regional political commitments and declarations on climate change. In March 2018, the High Level Panel on Water called for the launch of the Africa Water Investment Program to transform the investment outlook for water and implement the Paris Agreement on climate change to advance SDG 6 on water, SDG 13 on climate action, and SDG 17 on partnerships.

The Project Preparation Partnership for GCF Water Investments is an Africa-wide coalition of DEAs and NDAs from countries; African subregional accredited entities to the GCF; regional institutions; climate and development financiers; the private sector and other entities working together to enable countries to access the support they need to prepare and implement climate resilient water projects efficiently and effectively.
