Partnership Objective: Improve country capacity for GCF programming

  1. Provide a continental platform for countries to access strategic and technical support for prioritization and preparation of climate resilient water projects for the GCF
  2. Support countries to understand specific standards and procedural requirements in accessing finance from the GCF and other climate funds
  3. Offer a facilitated, flexible mechanism that enables demand-driven technical assistance for national Direct Access Entities, NDAs, and national water agencies and ministries
  4. Support countries in documenting and exchanging lessons learned in the preparation and financing of climate resilient water projects

Expected Outcome: Improve quality of water projects for GCF investment

  1. Improved capacity of DAEs, NDAs, and water ministries to prepare GCF water projects
  2. Establishment of a facilitated knowledge management mechanism through which African countries can share knowledge, experience and access strategic technical assistance on a demand-driven basis to advance preparation of GCF water projects
  3. Increased quality of GCF water proposals with strong climate change rationale
  4. Countries supported to review and further develop their project ideas into project concept notes and proposals that meet GCF requirements
  5. Improved understanding of GCF investment criteria, finance instruments, and concrete steps needed to prepare strong water-related adaptation project proposals
