The workshop on IWRM implementation was held on September 14-15, 2023 at the Institute of Economic Research in Astana. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss the progress and global reporting on the implementation of integrated water resources management. The event was organized by the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reform of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in partnership with the Global Water Partnership of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
The workshop focused on the current state of policy documents and legislation that provide the foundation for integrated water resources management at national and sub-national levels. Attendees analyzed the status of institutions and management instruments and assessed the financing of water resource development and management. Participants included representatives from CWP-Kazakhstan, Basin Inspectorates for Regulation of the Use and Protection of Water Resources, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Following the meeting, the participants agreed to continue collaborating to improve reporting in this area.
