GWP China Plans its Further Activities and Promotes Cooperation with Partners

On May 15, 2015, Angela Klauschen, Senior Network Officer of GWPO visited GWP China Regional Secretariat in Beijing.

Together with Rugang Zheng, Secretary General/Coordinator of GWP China Region, Xiaotao Cheng and Yunzhong Jiang, Deputy Coordinators of GWP China Region and Yilin MA, Communications Officer of GWP China Region, the internal working meeting was conducted to promote the further implementation of the activities of GWP China at national and local levels.The discussion was opened by Zheng who reviewed the activities of GWP China region from January to May and the further planned actions in the rest time of 2015.

 

Talking about developing cooperation and expanding programmes, Angela proposed to collaborate with WWF China regarding water-energy-ecology nexus and other potential fields such as wetlands restoration and protection. Furthermore, it was suggested to develop south-south cooperation between GWP China and GWP South Asia under the Integrated Flood Management Programme of GWPO/WMO. Cheng who has engaged in the flood and drought management for many years was invited to design the cooperation framework between two regional water partnerships. Afterwards, it’s discussed about the further development plan of the WACDEP in 2017-2019 period.

 

The activity to promote cooperation between GWP China and WWF China was set up on May 20, 2015, in Beijing. The initiative collaboration directions and plans were designed after the discussion between Zheng, on behalf of GWP China and Gang Lei, on behalf of WWF China. The meeting was chaired by Angela. It was confirmed to make the follow-up of the discussion that two parties would update the MOU signed in 2011 to sign another five-year  MOU later this year or early in 2016 of which the main areas for cooperation will include transboundary water resources management, water-related policy aspects, knowledge-sharing and capacity building.
