The Philippine Water Partnership (PWP) is the forerunner of Global Water Partnership-Southeast Asia (GWP-SEA) at the national level promoting IWRM both as a process and a win-win approach. PWP was launched on World Water Day, 22 March 2002 as a non-stock, non-profit entity under Philippine laws. It has been accredited by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) as its non-government organization (NGO) partner for the promotion of IWRM at the same time a recognized partner of the National Water Resorces Board (NWRB) on IWRM initiatives.
PWP aims to contribute and assist government efforts on IWRM by providing neutral grounds for discussion of IWRM issues among a wide range of stakeholders and pursuing sustainable advocacy and capacity building interventions at all levels. It also acts as spokesperson in behalf of its members on matters concerning IWRM and its liaison with other organizations both local and international.
PWP strategies include the facilitation of multi-stakeholder dialogues, advocacy campaigns, information, education, communication, research and capacity building initiatives.

- Astride typhoon belt, usually affected by 15 and struck by five to six cyclonic storms each year

- Uncontrolled deforestation especially in watershed areas
- Air and water pollution in major urban centers
- Coral reef degradation
- Increasing pollution of coastal mangrove swamps that are important fish breeding grounds
- Landslides
- Destructive earthquakes
