Communication and awareness-raising on hydrometeorological risks and impacts in schools in Burkina Faso

As part of the Climate Resilience Strengthening Project in Burkina Faso (HYDROMET-BF Project), GWP-AO launched a project at the end of June 2025 with the Directorate General of Water Resources (DGRE), the National Meteorological Agency (ANAM), the Provincial Directorate of Preschool, Primary and Non-Formal Education of Kadiogo (DPEPPNF) of the Ministry of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages of Burkina Faso, as well as all institutions involved in disaster risk management at the national level, to launch communication and awareness-raising activities on hydrometeorological risks and impacts in schools in Burkina Faso.

Mali, establishment of the National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin

On 26 June 2026, Mali established the first National Coordination of Users of Natural Resources in the Volta Basin. National conferences are to be held in each of the six countries of the Volta Basin with a view to establishing a representative, structured and recognised National Coordination of Natural Resource Users through the validation of co-opted organisations, the adoption of constitutive texts, the work plan and capacity building, and the initiation of official recognition procedures with the administrative authorities.

AFCIA Mali, flood risk/impact mapping and implementation of hydrological models in the commune of Koula/ cercle of Koulikoro

The stakeholders in the implementation of the project "Real-time mapping of flood risk in Mali based on rainfall forecasts, remote sensing and deep learning" met on 06 February 2025 to validate the report on the outcome of the mission to map the risk/impact of flooding and implement hydrological models in the commune of Koula in the Koulikoro district of Mali. The meeting brought together stakeholders from Mali in the conference room of the National Directorate of Hydraulics (DNH), as well as regional and GWP-AO experts online.

RIWE-Mono, a new initiative for the sustainable and integrated management of the transboundary Mono river basin

The Regional Initiative for Water and Sanitation in the Mono cross-border basin (RIWE-Mono) aims to restore ecosystems, improve the living conditions of people living along the river and promote concerted, sustainable management of natural resources, while strengthening cross-border cooperation between the two countries (Benin and Togo) that share this watercourse.

Strengthening coordination for the protection of Volta Basin Ecosystems: REWarD-Volta Basin Project in Action

The Volta Basin Authority (VBA) in collaboration with the Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA) organise a regional workshop to accelerate the implementation of the activities of the project ‘Reversing Water and Ecosystem Degradation in the Volta Basin’ or REWarD - Volta River Basin. This workshop takes place from 14 to 17 January 2025 in Lomé, Togo.

Water valuation and resilient development, stakeholders from West Africa and the Sahel consolidate the DREVE initiative

The States and regional organisations of West Africa and the Sahel region met virtually on 5 December 2024 to discuss the sustainable management of water resources in West Africa, with a particular focus on the regional initiative for the development, resilience and valorisation of water for West Africa (DREVE) and its various pillars. Participants discussed the challenges and opportunities related to climate risk management, project financing, capacity building and the preservation of the Fouta Djallon Mountains.
