On December 5, 2025, in Ouagadougou, Wetlands International Sahel Office (WISO) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the start of strengthened cooperation for sustainable water resource management, wetland conservation, and biodiversity protection in the Sahel region.

The Global Water Partnership (GWP) officially launched its 2026–2030 Strategy at the regional level during the 12th Partners’ Assembly of GWP-WA.

During the 12th Partners’ Assembly of GWP-WA, the Manual of Best Practices for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the UEMOA region was officially launched. This document marks a major step forward for water governance and regional cooperation.

The West Africa Regional Water Partnership (GWP-WA) held its 12th Ordinary Assembly of Partners (AP) under the theme: “Supporting Water Valorization to Transform West Africa.” This strategic meeting, organized via videoconference, brought together 35 partners from public institutions, regional organizations, NGOs, the private sector, and technical and financial partners.

Lomé, November 11, 2025 – The Regional Initiative for Water and Environment in the Transboundary Mono River Basin (RIWE-Mono) project has reached a decisive milestone with the official launch of the Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA) and Strategic Action Programme (SAP) process.

Bamako, November 10–11, 2025 – The Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) organized a regional workshop to validate the founding texts of the Volta Basin Parliamentarians’ Network.

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, a high-level virtual meeting brought together representatives of the Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) from West Africa and the Chair of the Regional Water Partnership (GWP-WA).

The regional workshop dedicated to establishing the Regional Coordination of Users of the Volta Basin (RCU-VB) concluded on a historic note: the election and installation of the Regional Executive Board, marking a decisive step toward participatory governance of shared natural resources.

From November 4 to 6, 2025, Bamako hosted a pivotal regional workshop under the REWaRD project- “Reversing Ecosystem and Water Resources Degradation Trends in the Volta Basin.” Implemented by the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and the Global Water Partnership – West Africa (GWP-WA), with support from UNEP, IUCN, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the project aims to strengthen ecological resilience and participatory governance across six West African countries.
