Stage 3 Support - Implementing Solutions

Stage 3 has the ambition to play a key role in helping countries build capacity to advance SDG 6 in a way that is strategic, coherent, and inclusive.

Once the country’s Stage 2 activities have completed, and it has an Action Plan or similar which identifies the opportunities to advance IWRM implementation, as well as the pathway, timeline and budget for that purpose, planning for the implementation of those activities can duly commence. The implementation of those activities requires an investment ideally from different stakeholders and ideally with a multi-annual perspective. However, not all of the funding required to implement the Stage 2 activities is truly needed in order to get started.

Stage 3 has the ambition to play a key role in helping countries build capacity to advance SDG 6 in a way that is strategic, coherent, and inclusive. Although the achievement of this aim can take many formats depending on a country’s needs, priorities and available resources, stage 3 activities may include the following:

  • Assist national governments to link national policies to the SDG 6.5 framework
  • Build new and strengthen existing multi-stakeholder partnerships for integrated implementation
  • Identify financing opportunities and prepare countries to access finance for SDG 6.5 implementation
  • Establish knowledge transfer mechanisms between stakeholders, countries and regions
  • Assist national governments in mainstreaming gender and youth into SDG policies and integrating a gender and youth focus into activities to advance the SDGs
  • Brokering partnerships between government institutions and providers of specific technical assistance
