A meeting of the Coordination Bureau of the African Network of Basin Organizations (ANBO) and the last meeting of the Steering Committee of the project "Strengthening Transboundary Water Management Institutions (SITWA)" have been held in Dakar, Senegal on 28 and 29 November 2016.

The project that started in 2012 and whose Objective is to “strengthen regional cooperation at the political, economic and stakeholder level for sustainable management of transboundary water resources in Africa contributing to peace and security, stability and poverty alleviation, relying on African knowledge” is coming to it end on December 31st 2016.

The Steering Committee of the project was therefore held to:

- Review and validate the final project report;

- Analyze the first observations of the Consultant in charge of the final evaluation of the project to give their first feedback.

- Take the final steps for the closing of the project.

The Coordination Bureau then examined the project " Building Institutional Capacity of ANBO contributing to the improvement of water governance in Africa” funded by the GEF planned to start in 2017; a good prospect for ANBO.

The Executive Secretary Mr. Dam MOGBANTE attended these meetings on behalf of GWP / WA.

Taking advantage of this mission in Dakar, Mr Mogbante had an exchange meeting with the members of the Steering Committee of the Country Water Partnership of Senegal (PNES) to review the state of operation of the CWP and the prospects for Short and medium terms.

He also had a meeting with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Senegal, in the presence of the Director of Water Resources Management and Planning. This was organised to stress again the availability of the GWP and the Senegal Country Water partnership to collaborate with Senegal, and also to obtain confirmation from the Ministry of the will of the country to develop a WACDEP project with the support of the GWP. The Secretary General agreed to this initiative and instructed the Director of Water Resources Management and Planning to contact the PNES to continue discussions on this initiative.
