In his address, the President of the National Assembly, Salifou Diallo, paid tribute to the pioneers of the sector for their contribution to making Burkina Faso deserving of its place in water governance. The Minister of Water and Sanitation Ambroise Niouga OUEDRAOGO recalled some of the actions that marked the recent history of the sector and noted the role of Salifou Diallo as Minister of State at the time in charge Developments in the sector. The chair of the CWP-BF, chairman of the organizing committee, thanked and paid tribute to these two personalities, boss and godfather of the night, before expressing the wish to see this event happen annually.
The event awarded several prices including two honorary trophies to Mrs Benthé shiller, Advisor to the Embassy of Denmark in charge of the water and sanitation sector in retirement, and Salifou Diallo, former Minister of State in charge of the water sector from 1995 to 2008, current President of the National Assembly. Mr. Diallo "dedicates this trophy to the brave peasants and peasants always in search of drinking water and water for plant production".
Eight (08) trophies identified five categories, including water resource development, sanitation promotion and good hygiene practices in Burkina Faso, the best financial investment in WASH, research and innovation, and leadership in the water and sanitation sector.
Eleven (11) special awards were also presented to various personalities and institutions for roles in different areas including climate change, transboundary water management, etc.
Certificates of recognition with posthumous titles were awarded to the beneficiaries of certain personalities including the former GWP WA chair, Hama Arba Diallo.
The evening of the water trophies was the occasion for the CWP Burkina to present the project “solution by Children” whose objective is to inculcate best practices of preservation and use of the water resource to the students of the schools the ambassador of the project "Solution by Children", Hanyyah NAYETE, spokesperson of the children at the ceremony, expressed the urgency of the question of the protection of the environment for the present generations, including children.
The first edition of the Water and Sanitation Trophies mobilized the main actors of the sector such as IRC, BERA, GIZ, PPI, AEN, Parliament, World Bank, Swedish Embassy, ONEA, BERAC, Burkina Faso, GWP, BRAKINA, in particular the Water Ministry, as well as media organizations such as Burkina Demain, BF1, Burkina 24 who believed in this initiative of the Country Water Partnership of Burkina Faso.
