EPIC Africa Kick-off Meeting in Accra

GWP-WA’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand Houanye attended the Kick-off Meeting of the ‘’EPIC Africa Project - Energy Planning and Modelling through Integrated Assessment of Climate-Land-Energy-Water Nexus in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Cases of the Volta and Tana River Basins’’ on 22nd and 23rd November 2022. The Kick-off meeting was held in Accra, Ghana from 21 to 25 November 2022.

Mr. Armand Houanye, as a member of the Advisory Board of the EPIC Africa Project, building on the experience of GWPSA and GWP Med provided to participants a Keynote speech on WEF Nexus and Insights into the Water Sector in terms of partnership regarding the WEF Nexus to help meet the SDGs in the West Africa sub-region.

The EPIC Africa Project is funded from 2022 to 2024 by the EU programme for research and innovation the Horizon Europe. It sets out to support sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), establishing and connecting a transition arena with stakeholders in dialogue, to the development of a long-term Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus engagement tool. Optimal use of shared resources will be exemplified for Africa using the cases of the Volta and Tana River basins. Through the co-creation and utilization of advanced and contextualized modelling tools for infrastructure planning in energy, water and food systems, EPIC Africa output will define actions to sustainably couple energy, water and food systems that are robust to climate change and socio-economic uncertainties.
