Guinea, bodies finally renewed - new leadership to boost the CWP hopefully

After many years of hesitation, the Country Water Partnership of Guinea held its third partners’ meeting on December 14 in Conakry. The so awaited meeting gathered about sixty (60) representatives of partner organizations in the country and presided by the technical advisor to the Guinean Minister of Energy and Water, Mr. Ismael DIA.

To justify the great lethargy the CWP has gone through the outgoing chair, Mr. Ibrahima SYLLA highlighted some internal dysfunctions and the Ebola epidemic in the country. The Partners’ meeting renewed the organs of the CWP: the chair person, the steering committee and the scientific committee. A ten-member bureau was set up.

HannMr. Elhadj Mamadou Alpha HANN, elected as the new chair of the Country Water Partnership, expressed his commitment to reinvigorate the Partnership and make every effort to achieve its objectives with the help and support of government and partners in the water and environment sector. He said that communication towards and training of stakeholders will be at the heart of his priorities.

The representative of the Ministry reiterated his department's commitment to support the CWP achieve its objectives and called for the participation of all stakeholders of the water and water related sectors.

The new bureau had a meeting on December 22 to start bringing together stakeholders and give new orientations for actions in favor of the sustainable management and development of water resources in the country.

Professor Amadou Hama MAIGA, regional chair congratulated the new chair and his bureau and ensured them of the commitment of the region to support the CWP whenever needed. The new bureau is working to recruit an executive secretary and to develop a work plan.
