Mali, for the sustainable management of industrial waste

CWP Mali held on 11 and 12 April 2017 a workshop on the sustainable management of the industrial wate of Sotuba, a district in Bamako with many industries. The event was organized in collaboration with the national agency of cleaning stations of Mali under the patronage of the Minister of environment, sanitation and sustainable development represented by his General Secretary, Mr. Abdoulaye BERTHE.

The primary aim is to strengthen collaboration between the agency and the industry managers of Sotuba and it was attended by sixty participants representing technical public services, industrial units of the Sotuba area, leaders of the IWRM unit at the National Directorate of water, the media, etc.

MaliThe main recommendations of the meeting include the construction and rehabilitation of pre-treatment units to be incorporated in the production process. Mali_petitParticipants also recommended to create a permanent consultation framework between stakeholders, to create enabling conditions for connecting users to waste evacuation system. A recommendation asking the ministry to establish a depollution fund was made as well as forbidding all mining activities in the water ways. And the CWP was asked to work with the agency to operationalise a permanent consultation framework and do more sensitization.
