Stage 1 support for SDG 6.5.1 reporting in 2017-2018

During the 2017-2018 data drive conducted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to establish the baseline for SDG indicator 6.5.1, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme supported countries in convening multi-stakeholder consultation workshops to determine the current status of IWRM implementation and collect and discuss the official country data.

The results of these workshops informed the SDG 6 baseline data included in UN-Water’s SDG 6 Synthesis Report 2018 on Water and Sanitation. They also contributed to the 2018 report, Progress on Integrated Water Resources Management,  which presented the global baseline for SDG 6 indicator 6.5.1, the degree of IWRM implementation.

In alignment with the principles of IWRM, the workshops brought together diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, private sector representatives, international organisations and civil society organizations. Participants discussed the status of water resources management in-country and filled in the official SDG 6.5.1 in a collaborative manner.

From August 2017 to February 2018, consultative workshops were convened with the support of the Support Programme in 36 countries. Have a closer look at the supported countries and the workshops that were organised on our Results Map.
