On December 5, 2025, in Ouagadougou, Wetlands International Sahel Office (WISO) and the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marking the start of strengthened cooperation for sustainable water resource management, wetland conservation, and biodiversity protection in the Sahel region.

During the event, GWP-C reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional efforts in sustainable water and land governance, particularly through its role in the implementation of the Caribbean Drought Initiative—one of the key undertakings of the regional Inter-Governmental Organisation, which recently signed a Headquarter Agreement with the Government of Grenada.
