Urban Water Management in El Salvador

Integrated Urban Water Management (IUWM) is an important issue for Central America because of the growing population in the cities and the effects of climate change on urban water resources.

To contribute to the regional capacity in IUWM, GWP Central America organized a regional workshop on this topic, in November 2012. The participants included representatives from municipalities, water and sanitation agencies, and universities.

As a follow up of the regional workshop, the Central American University José Simeón Cañas in El Salvador (one of the universities who participated in the regional workshop), with the support of GWP El Salvador and GWP Central America, organized a workshop on the Integrated Management of Urban Floods as part of their Capacity Building in Water Engineering and Environmental Management Project, from the 18th to the 23rd of February 2013, in San Salvador.

There were22 participants from the public and private sectors, including the Planning Office for the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Red Cross of El Salvador, among others.
