Péter is a renowned water governance expert with more than 35 years of experience in international and transboundary water cooperation. He has held top leadership positions in Hungarian government institutions and on global water platforms, always showing strong commitment to integrated water resources management (IWRM), regional dialogue, and water diplomacy.
His track record includes serving as Chair of the UNECE Water Convention (2015–2018), President of the ICPDR (2019), and Member of the Board of Governors of the World Water Council (2022-). He has also represented Hungary as EU Water Director, led the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive, served in bilateral transboundary commissions as governmental plenipotentionary and negotiated over 50 bilateral agreements on water cooperation.
Péter has been closely engaged with GWP for many years – as Hungary’s representative to the GWP Sponsoring Partners and through active involvement in GWP Hungary. His deep knowledge of GWP’s mission, strong regional and global network, and proven leadership in diplomacy and policy development make him exceptionally well-suited to guide developments in the CEE region.
We warmly welcome Péter to his new role and look forward to working with him to strengthen water cooperation and climate resilience across Central and Eastern Europe.
