GWP CEE at the European River Restoration Conference

GWP Central and Eastern Europe will share experiences with lowland river restoration in Moldova and using water for energy and environment in Slovenian Alpine streams at the European River Restoration Conference held on 11th-13th September in Vienna.

Dr. Dumitru Drumea will present "Options for cooperation with local public authorities to facilitate river restoration activities in Moldova" during Session 09 Ensuring Local Sustainability on 13 September at 9:45-11:00 o'clock.

Dr. Darja Istenic will present a poster "Mitigation measures for sustainable water abstractions in Alpine streams", a case study on implementation of different mitigation measures in Mošenik Stream. There are four small hydropower plants abstracting water from the stream. Authors suggest different measures for restoring degraded water ecosystem, increasing capacity of the watercourse to retain water and therefore contributing to sufficient water flows for fauna and flora.

The Conference will provide:

  • Exciting examples of practical efforts to restore the natural state and functioning of rivers and how this has improved flood risk management, river ecology, and supported green infrastructure and community development. Several sites along the Danube will be visited on inspiring field trip excursions.
  • Exchange of expertise – about River Restoration from expert presentations, field trips to restoration sites, and workshop sessions
  • Valuable networking opportunities – the ideal platform to meet and share ideas with like minded professionals and practitioners involved in protection and restoration of Europe’s rivers.
