VFDM holds second session of its Technical Advisory Committee

On May 06, 2022, the second session of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Project "Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin" (VFDM Project) was held in Cotonou, Benin.

This 2nd session of the TAC comes after nearly three years of implementation of the VFDM Project by the consortium composed of WMO, VBA, GWP-WA.

The meeting made recommendations including:

  • The VFDM project consortium (WMO, VBA, GWP-WA) requests the TAC members from each of the Volta Basin countries to provide support for data sharing within the countries and to use them for modeling and forecasting flood and drought risks and to visualize them within the VOLTALARM EWS.
  • The TAC members recommend that the VFDM Project partners negotiate an extension period for the project in order to utilize the remaining budget and address unfinished needs due to the delay;
  • The members of the TAC recommend that the VFDM Project partners develop a synergy of action between the different programs and projects;
  • The members of the TAC recommend that the VFDM Project partners give priority to face-to-face training for the VOLTALARM EWS;
  • The TAC members recommend to the VFDM Project partners to reorient some activities, if possible, for example by increasing investments in the pilot sites;
  • TAC members recommend that VFDM Project partners promote the governance value chain for sustainability;
  • The TAC members recommend that the WMO, in collaboration with the VBA and GWP-AO, ensure that the VoltAlarm EWS is installed at the appropriate levels with national and regional agency facilities in data sharing as well as in developing synergies and partnerships with partners in the implementation of relevant initiatives.
