Benin, the civil society organizes a media Café on the levers towards SDG 6.2

The consultation framework of Non-State Actors in the water and sanitation sector (CANEA) organized a media café as part of the celebration of 2021 World Toilet Day (WTD). The Media Café on November 19 was organized under the theme "What levers for Benin's march towards SDG 6?”.

It is meant to bring the men and women of the media to contribute to the sensitization of the general public on the challenges to be met in the sub-sector of hygiene and basic sanitation. More than twenty participants were present at this media event. The participants were women and men of the media, as well as members of CANEA and state actors of the sub-sector.

The actors of the sub-sector Hygiene and Basic Sanitation met to make the state of the art in this sub-sector in order to recall the challenges to be taken up for the happiness of the Beninese.

Two communications and a documentary film were presented to fuel the debates. Mr. Felix ADEGNIKA, expert in water and sanitation and member of CANEA presented a paper on the state of the art of this sub-sector. According to him, the challenges of Benin in terms of hygiene and basic sanitation are still great and efforts remain to be made in this sub-sector.

The second presentation was made by Mr. Pie DJIVO, engineer in sanitary engineering and representative of the National Agency for Primary Health Care (ANSSP) of the Ministry of Health. He said that a lot of work has been done in recent years, even if there is still a lot to be done. The issue of hygiene remains a complex area and the Ministry of Health is acting through microcredit and the implementation of containment, he added.

The film "A la poursuite du caca au Bénin" (In pursuit of poo in Benin), by Niyel, directed by Keneth Kouassi, was shown to remind all the actors, partners and government, of the challenge that remains in the sub-sector.
