ECOWAS Water Observatory kick-off meeting in Lomé

The Capital city of Togo, Lomé hosted the kick-off meeting of the establishment process of the ECOWAS regional water observatory and validation of the provisional report of the operationalization study of the West African Regional Water Resources Policy (WARP) Monitoring and Evaluation Facility from 20 to 22 June 2018.

This workshop brought together various participants, including IWRM focal points or their representatives from the ECOWAS region as well as basin organizations, technical and financial partners.

UNEP- DHI in collaboration with GWP are supporting ECOWAS in establishing the Observatory and is expected to support in setting up the web portal and train focal points in data collection.

The Observatory is expected to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic situation and the reduction of poverty in ECOWAS Member States, through better planning of water resources management.

The workshop was an opportunity for exchange and sharing on the validation of the provisional report of the operationalization study of the West African Regional Water Resources Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Facility. Both meetings brought together 26 participants, including IWRM focal points or their representatives from the ECOWAS region as well as basin organizations, technical and financial partners.

GWP/WA took the opportunity to ensure that country representatives understood the essential role of Focal Points who should take their part in the work and simply be accompanied in the collection of data and information.
