EPIC Response Framework: innovative governance for flood and drought risk management

Global Water Partnership West Africa and the Country Water Partnership of Ghana (CWP-Ghana) jointly with the ECOWAS Water Resources Management Center (WRMC), the World Bank (WB) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) organized on October 4, 2022, the regional dissemination workshop on the EPIC Response Framework: innovative governance for flood and drought risk management.

The hybrid event gathered some 50 face to face participants in Accra, Ghana and more than 60 participants online in various countries of West Africa and others.

The global flagship report “An EPIC Response: Innovative Governance for Flood and Drought Risk Management” was launched in June 2021. The report provides a new perspective on hydro-climatic risks by looking at floods and droughts through the same lens. It identifies the roles of different government agencies in managing these risks and highlights where and how these agencies need to collaborate. It represents the most extensive compendium of flood and drought policies and programs that currently exists in the literature. The report audience includes World Bank client country governments, development agencies, and the international flood and drought technical community.

The regional workshop is organized to operationalize the content of the EPIC Response Framework and help apply it in specific country contexts with the goal of improving policy dialogue and operations.

Participants exchanged and made during breakout groups discussions recommendations to the World Bank and partners, to the States and to the National and Regional Institutions.
