GWP/WA supports ECOWAS in the setting up of its Regional Water Observatory

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is supporting financially the establishment of the ECOWAS Regional Water Observatory and the technical support will come from the UNEP-DHI Water and Environment partnering with GWP/WA as a consortium.

The project will contribute to improving the performance of the water sector through the operationalization of the regional water observatory and capacity building of water sector actors in the 15 ECOWAS member countries. Specifically, it will contribute to :

- develop the tools necessary for the operationalization of the regional water observatory,

- consolidate the sets of regional IWRM indicator,

- develop a framework for monitoring the water sector,

- organize training and provide support for the organization of project meetings and workshops,

- develop dissemination materials for the results of the project.

Thus, a series of meetings took place between GWP/WA, ECOWAS/WRCC and DHI to define the scope in the last week of March. The parties exchanged on the methodology of implementation and specific meetings to be held, notably the launch of the project planned in Lomé in Togo from 15 to 17 May.
