ECOWAS and WASCAL to study the impacts of climate change and the cost of adaptation on the agricultural, water and coastal sectors in West Africa

On March 11, 2021, the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) organized a virtual workshop to launch the activities of the study on the impacts of climate change and the cost of adaptation on the agricultural, water and coastal sectors in West Africa.

This study, which will be conducted by WASCAL on behalf of ECOWAS, will contribute to the vision of the ECOWAS Strategic Programme on Reducing Vulnerability and Adapting to Climate Change: "by the end of 2030, all West African countries will have (or should have) the human, technical and financial resources to protect their human and natural systems from the adverse effects of climate change".

This workshop is an official launch of the activities that will be undertaken by WASCAL under this agreement.

The workshop brought together stakeholders to discuss the technical methodology, work plan, data requirements and timeline for validation of deliverables. In addition, participants were able to share their experiences, and invite ideas and practical contributions to the study.

GWP-WA took part in the meeting and was represented by Mr. Joseph Yaovi KOBGE, the AIP WACDEP-G Programme officer.
