Monitoring functions of the operationalization of IWRM in Benin, validation of the diagnostic report

On 24 and 25 June 2020, CWP Benin initiated, the conduct of a diagnostic study on the monitoring function in the field of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) carried out by non-state actors.

This study is part of a process of technical support provided by the CWP-Benin to the non-state actors who support the state in the operationalisation of the institutional framework for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in Benin. The study was conducted within the framework of the implementation of the Governance component of the OmiDelta Non-State Actors (NSA) Fund programme by the consortium including CWP-Benin, Social Watch and ALCRER.

The aim is to document the capacity building needs of non-state actors for the monitoring of IWRM operationalisation in Benin. This will be done by validating the results of the diagnostic study; identifying the capacity building needs of NSAs for the monitoring function; planning technical support to NSAs active in monitoring in terms of the operationalisation of IWRM in Benin.

The workshop was attended by about thirty participants from CSOs working in the IWRM sector, as well as actors from the central and decentralised water services.

Participants recommended to deepen the documentation of the practical cases of the monitoring function developed by NSAs for the operationalisation of IWRM in Benin and improve the SWOT analysis in order to strengthen the capacities of NSAs.
