NBA holds statutory meetings in Nigeria

The Niger Basin Authority (NBA) held in Abuja from 24 to 27 May 2021 its statutory meeting including the meeting of the: Technical Committee of Experts on May 24 to 26, 2021, the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 27, 2021.

The 12th Summit of Heads of State and Government initially scheduled for Saturday, 29th May 2021, was postponed and to be held virtually on 3rd June 2021.

GWP-WA Executive Secretary, Mr. Armand HOUNAYE took part in the meetings.

Discussions focused on the institutional, organizational, operational issues.

The ministers adopted among other resolutions on: (i) the roadmap for implementing the organizational chart of the NBA Executive Secretariat; (ii) the construction of the NBA headquarters; (iii) enhancing the collaboration with the development partners. During the closed doors session, the Ministers discussed on the administrative situation of the Executive Secretary.

Participants include Ministers in charge of water of Burkina Faso, Chad, Niger and Nigeria, the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry in charge of water of Benin G , Ambassadors Guinea and Mali in Nigeria, the High Commissioner of Cameroon in Nigeria, donors, technical partners, basin natural resources users, national focal structures, and NBA experts.
