Nigeria, CWP pushing for the WEFE Nexus in the country

A one-day meeting consultation / engagement meeting on the Water-Food-Energy-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus initiative in Nigeria with key stakeholders was organized on 21 February 2018.

The consultation captured a broad range of priority issues related to improving relationship between the herdsmen (pastoralist) and farming communities which is key to Agricultural promotion policy of the government.

The workshop was organized by Global Water Partnership Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) through the WEFE Nexus working group and Federal Ministry of Water Resources (FMWR) through Nigeria Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).

The aim was for stakeholders to deliberate on and review the objectives of the WEFE Nexus initiative and align it with the country priorities of FAO plans.

Among the resolutions, the workshop resolved that the WEFE Nexus working group should further liaise with ECOWAS and the already identified donors (FAO, IFAD, etc.) for robust collaboration towards achieving the success of the project.

GWP WA is invited to make available the seed money promised so that the project commenced in the first quarter of 2018.
