Senegal water ministry shares the draft law on the new Senegalese water code

Almost 10 years ago, Senegal started a process of updating the water code that dates to 1981. Since a draft revised document is available, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, through the Directorate of Water Resources Management and Planning (DGPRE), organized a workshop to share this draft law with all stakeholders in the water sector.

The event took place on 19 May 2022 at the Ministerial Spheres of DIAMNIADIO.

This consultation meeting with the stakeholders was an opportunity for them to share their remarks and concerns about the draft law. Aspects related to IWRM, and biodiversity were much discussed during this workshop. A better involvement of young people and women in the decision-making bodies is also strongly requested.

This draft law is generally a consolidation of the law of 81 with some innovations. The consultation frameworks such as the High Council for Water and the Technical Committee on Water, which are currently non-functional, will be re-established.

The chair of CWP Senegal is a member of the Technical Committee on Water.
