TFTC 2 in Benin coaches youth trained in composting, mango plantation surveillance, water and soil conservation techniques

The final evaluation of the support to the youth of the Communal Hygiene and Sanitation Association (ACHA) of Tanguiéta on the production of compost from solid household waste revealed that the training definitely raised the level of mastery of the members of the association on the production and exploitation of various compost.

But it is essential to provide the young people, particularly the core group that has remained, with materials and some financial resources to cover a quantitative production.

The promotion of the manufactured products (liquid super magro, Bokashi and classic compost) to local structures working with market gardening groups, producers of rice, corn and sesame could motivate them to pre-finance their production. But these products will not be able to really cover market needs and then achieve the overall objective of preserving the Hydrological Unit (HU) of Tchoutchoubou from pollution by waste.

Pilot actions will be implemented to combat pollution, erosion and restore ecosystems.

In terms of ecosystem restoration, reforestation of degraded areas in the Tchoutchoubou H.U. and the establishment of a mango plantation will be done on an identified site. Occupants of the space were informed and sensitized during two sessions in addition to the establishment of the committee that will be in charge of planting the mango trees and later managing the orchard on 17 and 23 March 2022 in the commune of Tanguiéta.

The farmers occupying the areas to be reforested, the Fulani herders of the zone, the Tanguieta Town Hall, the agents of the communal cell of the Territorial Agency for Agricultural Development (ATADA) of Tanguiéta; the communal section of the Forestry and Hunting Department of Tanguiéta; the PLE Atacora Donga are all involved in the different activities.

A training workshop for young people (students - members of the CLE) on plant production techniques and the development of water and soil conservation techniques was held from 23 to 25 February 2022 in the commune of Tanguiéta. It was attended by about forty participants including twenty (20) young farmers, ten (10) young students and five (5) young members of the Local Water Committee (CLE); the representatives of the town hall, the Local Water Committee (CLE) of the Tchoutchoubou Hydrographic Unit (UH), the team of trainers.

This training had two parts (theoretical and practical) to allow participants learn about the various techniques to be able to directly implement them.
