Togo, TFTC beneficiaries’ associations produce compost and capacity building for young professionals

Eau Vive Togo implementing its project to support young people in protecting the environment, water and soil (PAJPEES) has trained young men and women from 26 to 28 February 2019 in Danyi-Apéyéme on the compost production. To follow upon the training of the young agro-pastoralists, Eau Vive Togo gave to the beneficiary associations some inputs (chicken droppings and "Mycotri" boxes) for compost production.

Each association will have to mobilize local inputs such as dead tree leaves and legume leaves to make about 300 kg of compost each for use in members' fields.

The aim of this activity is to gradually encourage young agro-pastoralists to use and adopt organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers whose impacts on the soil are quite disastrous.

A capacity building session for young water and environment professionals was held was on 28 and 29 March 2018 on the legal framework of the water sector, sustainable development, WASH project development and hygiene and sanitation promotion.  This training aims to strengthen young people's involvement in the implementation and achievement of the SDGs, particularly the SDG6. Specifically, the young professionals were taught the national legal framework for water; (ii) trained on WASH project development, community mobilization techniques and hygiene and sanitation promotion. Participants also shared experiences and collaboration strengthened among young professionals.

The training took place in Danyi and the official ceremony presided by the secretary general of the Prefecture. It brought together nearly thirty young people from various local and national associations.

In the long term, the young participants are expected to improve the activities of their associations and local associations will be mobilized to support women sensitizers in the awareness sessions that will be implemented in the locality of Danyi Apéyémé.

The TFTC Project funded by the Government of Quebec (Canada) is jointly implemented by the International Secretariat for Water (ISW), the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA), Eau Vive Togo and the Country Water Partnerships of Benin and Burkina Faso.
