VFDM holds technical workshop to amend and validate manual and other training materials

Under the framework of the implementation of the project entitled « Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin » (VFDM), WMO, VBA and GWP-WA have planned to organize a series of eight (8) national training workshops in the six (06) countries of the Volta Basin on the theme "Gender Mainstreaming in the End-to-End Early Warning System for Flood Forecasting and Integrated Flood Risk Management".

A comprehensive training manual was prepared in English by Associated Flood Management Program (AFMP) of the WMO and the Global Water Partnership (GWP) team. The manual provides guidance on how practitioners and decision-makers can ensure a better integration of gender into global flood forecasting and integrated flood risk management processes.

Prior to the national training workshops, GWP-WA in collaboration with the other VFDM implementing partners is conducting the process of adapting the global training manual to the context of the Volta Basin in incorporating specific case studies form the basin on the one hand; and on the other hand, developing the material required to transmit and facilitate the eight (8) upcoming national training workshops in the countries.

A technical workshop for the amendment and validation of the draft adapted manual and the training material was held from 16 to 20 June 2021 in Koubri, Burkina Faso. Participants include the regional consultant, two (2) executives from the VBA Executive Directorate, three (3) executives from GWP-WA Executive Secretariat, two (2) associate consultants with knowledge and skills on thematic related to the End-to-End Early Warning System for Flood Forecasting and Integrated Flood Risk Management processes as well as the Gender mainstreaming into the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development processes.

The national training workshops are planned to be held from July to September 2021 in the six Volta basin countries.
