VFDM supports the development of a regional programme based on Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in the Volta basin

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), the Volta Basin Authority (VBA) and Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA), in collaboration with IUCN, organised and held six (6) national capacity building workshops for Volta Basin stakeholders on Nature-based Solutions for the development of bankable projects and the mobilisation of funding for their implementation in national and Volta Basin-wide portions.

These national workshops trained two hundred and fourteen (214) participants, including 51 women, on "Nature-based Solutions", improved their knowledge of the NBS design and analysis framework. At the end of the various national workshops, 27 project ideas were identified and recommendations were made for the development of concept notes in support of national projects and/or a regional programme to be implemented in the Volta Basin. These are meant to address national and transboundary issues of degradation of natural resources and associated ecosystems, build the adaptive capacity and resilience of communities, combat climate change, improve livelihoods and conditions for sustainable economic and social development.

A process of analysis, reorganisation and proposal of logical frameworks for five (5) national projects and one (1) regional programme allowed the development of draft concept notes to support their elaboration, maturation and implementation.

The main objective of the organisation and holding of the regional workshop in Lomé, Togo, was to allow country actors and financial partners to propose amendments to the draft logical frameworks and concept notes for these national projects and the regional programme.

The meeting was attended by about thirty participants from the six Volta basin riparian countries.
