Vulnerable communities’ resilience to climate change in Togo

The Ministry of Environment and Forest resources, the Designated National Authority of the Green Climate Fund in Togo, organized on 27 November 2020 a workshop with financial support from partners.

This meeting was to launch the formulation process of the project to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities in Togo to the effects of climate change through Integrated Water Resources Management and Climate Sensitive Drinking Water Supply, Hygiene and Sanitation.

The initiative is facilitated by UNDP, UNICEF and Global Water Partnership (GWP) in order to support the Government of Togo to address the impacts of climate hazards on access, cost, quality and sustainability of WASH services as well as integrated water resources management. Concretely the partners are supporting the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Village Hydraulics in the development of a concept note and a pre-feasibility study to be submitted to the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

This support started at the beginning of this year (2020) and enabled consultations to be held with the stakeholders concerned for the formulation of the project idea note, which was finalized in June.

About forty (40) delegates attended the meeting and discussed the structure of the pre-feasibility study and concept note, the data required and made suggestions and perspectives on their priorities to guide the rest of the process.
