Water and Sanitation Sector Review 2018 in Benin

The water and sanitation sector stakeholders met on 28 and 29 June 2019 in Cotonou for the traditional sector review. Stakeholders shared and exchanged on progress but also reflected on major concerns in order to ensure sustainable access to water and sanitation for the population.

During the discussions during the two days of work, dysfunctions, weaknesses or bottlenecks were identified by the actors in the sector. They deplored  the construction of drinking water works by some NGOs without respect for the standards, the lack of resources and the poor monitoring of the organizations' interventions by the decentralized services, the poor information in the Water Directorate Information Database (IDB), the non-operation of the IWRM bodies, in particular the delay in adopting the decree on the Water Agency of the Ouémé basin.

This 16th meeting gathered the executives of the water and health sector ministries, local actors, Non-State Actors, the private sector, Technical and Financial Partners for the annual review of the interventions.
