Women's organizations and networks trained to better understand gender inequalities for strengthened decision-making power in Benin

“Access to water and climate information services: better understanding gender inequalities to strengthen women's decision-making power in Benin” is the topic of the training workshop on December 21-22, 2021, in Natitingou, Benin by the CWP and the WACDEP-G team.

The workshop aimed at contributing to strengthen the capacities of women in the Volta Basin to make decisions and choices regarding access to and use of information services on water and climate.

Discussions permitted to identify existing gender gaps and inequalities that limit the participation of women and their organizations in decision-making processes and choices on access to and use of water and climate information services in the implementation areas of the demonstration projects. Some clues were provided to participants to build their leadership capacities as women.

Fifty (50) participants attended the workshop. They were representatives of the communes of Tanguieta and Copargo (city hall executives, women's and youth associations), women's networks and organizations at the local and national levels, Youth associations and associations of disabled people, the national meteorological agency of Benin (METEO BENIN), the Ministry of water and mines and the Ministry of social affairs and microfinance.
